If you live in Cobb County, GA, and believe in equity of opportunity for women and girls, have a desire to assist women and families in your community, and want to learn more about the issues affecting the lives of women of all ages in the home, workplace, public schools and on college and university campuses, then join the AAUW Cobb branch.
General membership meetings are held monthly in Cobb County libraries or other venues. At these meetings, we learn about advocacy issues, problems at public schools, and the status of women and girls in our own community. We listen and explore ways we can help or advocate at the ballot box. Through our 8th Grade Girls Essay Contest, we strive to motivate girls to enter STEM fields. We also work closely with our AAUW student affiliate at Kennesaw State University, offering the support and mentoring needed for their concerns about equity and life on campus. We also offer them opportunity to attend AAUW’s National Conference for College Women Leaders and a chance to win one of our scholarships. Our advocacy and philanthropic mission extends to collecting food donations for women and families in need if assistance. We also collaborate with other NGOs on common issues, believing that advocacy numbers bring greater change.
The branch also has special interest groups that meet monthly and offer fun, camaraderie, and intellectual stimulation: Book Discussion Group, Roving Gourmet (dinner out), Magic Movie Night, and special trips for cultural events are always a part of the enjoyment of being an AAUW Cobb member.
How we are funded:
Cobb branch philanthropic and scholarship funds come primarily from our annual Bookfair, a collaboration with two other AAUW branches in Georgia. We work together all year to collect, clean, sort and price used books in a central bookroom before the fall event. AAUW members and volunteers work different shifts all week to make the fair a success.
Our 2017 AAUW Atlanta Bookfair at Perimeter Mall was held from September 25th through October 1st.
The 59th Annual Bookfair at Perimeter Mall will be held Tuesday through Sunday, September 25th through September 30th, mall hours.
Opening night for the AAUW Atlanta 2018 Bookfair will be Monday, September 24th, from 6 to 9 PM with a $10 admission opening night only.
The Bookfair is located in the Dillard’s event court, Lower Level at Perimeter Mall
