Honored at the“Thanks for Giving” November 2015 program for beyond the call of duty to AAUW Cobb and the community were (L-R front row) Joan Zenteno, Judy Ribarsky, Marie Shockley, Nancy Coakley, Amy Stevens, Debbie Karvey, and Bea Piddock. Debbie and Karen received special recognition for their year-long, dedicated, work in making the Bookfair a success, which raised $8,087 for the Cobb Branch.
September, 2015. 56th Annual AAUW Bookfair, North Point Mall. Thousands of used books go on sale to raise money for three branches of AAUW in GA (Cobb, North Fulton, Atlanta). The books are collected throughout the year at several book-drop locations, taken to a central location (Book Room) for sorting, inspection, cleaning, and pricing. The combined branch effort raised over $47,000 in 2015. Proceeds are distributed among the branches , according to total branch volunteer hours, for scholarships community projects, and AAUW Funds.
At the Student Activities Fair, Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, GA, September 2015. (l to rt) Simoine Kenya, President of AAUW Cobb’s affiliate on the KSU campus; Arden Stone, President of the Cobb branch; and Diane Sakmar, GA AAUW President. Despite a mostly rainy day, over 50 interested KSU women students came by the table and signed up to join AAUW KSU!
September 2014: Represented at the YWCA-Delta Airlines sponsored conference, “It’s Time to Talk: A Forum on Race”, attended by over 600 people from various NGOs in the Atlanta area, provided an opportunity to talke about race within a structure of diversity and openness. AAUW of Cobb County and AAUW of Atlanta were contributing sponsors for this event. Attending were AAUW members Marie Shockley, Bea Piddock, Myra Carmon, Debbie Karvey, Arden Stone and our guest, Cindia Cameron, Organizing Director of 9to5.org.
